Fig trees appear in the myths and legends of cultures throughout the world. Whether nestled in the Garden of Eden or providing refuge to Buddha in the moment of his enlightenment, its role in the human story is venerable and enduring. Perhaps the first cultivated crop, its soft flesh has nourished the ancients of Asia, Egypt, Greece and Italy, all of whom proclaimed it sacred.
